Kindle: Read Anywhere

Recently Apple just announced some changes that are coming to ibooks. One of the benefits coming is ibooks ,finally available on the mac. It still is not enough to hold the title as the #1 ebook reader. There was no mention of exporting highlights and notes in apple’s updates. Apple has really been behind kindle in this arena. Kindle is available on any device and has been for quite a while now.

Reasons to ditch ibooks for kindle

1. Read anywhere

2.Export all your notes and highlights

One great feature the kindle app allows is exporting notes and highlights. I recently came across the methods to do this. I want to give thanks to Michael Hyatt and his amazing blog article on exporting notes and highlights from kindle This has made my sermon notes and blog articles so much easier when importing book points. This is also a great feature on capturing great sermon illustrations from all the great books you read. I will export all of these to evernote and seperate each quote to its own note and then tag it appropriately to add to my illustration database.

So How do you do this?

1.Create your highlights as usual. This feature is different on each device. I find it easiest on Kindle for Mac or my iPad Mini.

2.Log into your unique Amazon Kindle page. Who knew you even had a unique Kindle page? It contains a list of all your books, with links to the notes and highlights. You can even record your progress then rate the book. Your main page will look similar to this:

3.Click on Your Books. This is at the top of your Kindle page. Choose this option instead of Your Highlights.

It will narrow the display to notes and highlights for a specific book, once you select one. You should now see a page similar to this:

4, Select the appropriate book. You can either search for it in the search bar at the top of the page or scroll down your list of books. Once you select a book, you will get a page that looks similar to this:

5. View your notes and highlights. You will now need to click on the link that says, “You have XX highlighted passages …” in the top right-hand side of the page.

Once you click it, you will see a page with all your highlights and notes. It will look similar to this

This is so helpful when your writing blog articles or preparing your sermon. This will allow you to easily manage and access your awesome highlights and notes. This is amazing ! This feature alone has encouraged me to buy all future books through kindle and ditch the ibooks app.
